First Big Milestones

When it comes to opening a business, there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff most people don’t know—or don’t want to know.
The people I talk to are terrified of going out on their own because they don’t know where to start or they don’t have the capital. I get it. Been there. Done that. Bought the shirt.
The best thing you can do to start a business, turn your passion into a career, or go from surviving to thriving is: just do it. That might not sound like the most helpful advice—especially if you’re feeling down—but sometimes the only way is up.
I’ve been dreaming about my own store for years, and I almost didn’t do it. My wife and I eventually realized we didn’t have a choice: keep doing something I didn’t love and stay stuck in a routine, or finally work toward our dreams. So we went for it.
We’ve done farmer’s markets, trade shows, conventions, and other local events to spread the word. It’s been so encouraging to connect with people and share the joy I get from playing games with others.
One huge blessing in this day and age is having an online presence. Our online store keeps growing, and it still blows my mind when someone from across the country requests a game.
There are plenty of milestones left to reach, but celebrating the small wins is absolutely a must if you want to survive—and enjoy—owning a business.
